Veteran Craftsman Ray Shepherd of Eugene, Oregon, has unveiled his latest line of handmade fashion jewelry. His creation is the the “Fantasy Flora” series representing unique, limited edition pendants, necklaces and earrings. Fantasy Flora is really an evolving, growing series of miniature flowers and their possible color combinations.
Currently, there are roses, sunflowers and lilies.

They measure just 1 to 2.5 inches across. In the works are orchids, pansies, fuchsias, daffodils, bleeding hearts, violets, marigolds, primroses, and more.

The creativity of this limited edition line of fashion jewelry extends beyond their appearance to Mr. Shepherd's use of the new, durable and light-weight polymer clays. To this he adds acrylic paints, blushes and other mediums to formulate the fresh look of real flowers.

Each flower pendant, necklace and earring is handmade. Every flower pendant comes with a black adjustable cord so it can be worn high or low. The pendant can be easily detached if you prefer to use another cord or chain. Special color combinations are available at no extra cost.

Born in Long Beach, California, Ray Shepherd was recognized for highly evolved talents and creativity by the age of nine. A number of his paintings were sold by the age of twelve. Ray’s formal education in art consisted of only a few fundamental courses taken at Pasadena City College in Southern California.

Ray has traveled much; he has studied and associated with artists from around the world. From decades of interminable experimentation in the various art techniques, plus his insatiable quest for the “perfection of the medium“, Ray has increased his own knowledge tenfold, while blazing new trails for other artists and students.

Ray has a remarkable history of art and invention. When acrylics were first introduced in 1962, Ray did not waste a moment to experiment with them. The unusual characteristics and properties of acrylics fascinated Ray to the point where he began developing new approaches and techniques in painting.

Today, whether applying acrylics to canvas or to fine collectible gift pieces, Ray is a master of the medium and one of the leading teachers who is frequently sought for his knowledge and expertise. With subject matters that range from the serious to the whimsical, his styles include photo realism, impressionism and surrealism, amongst others.

His paintings and collectibles are held in great esteem by galleries and private collectors throughout the world. The Southern California Gallery chain, Paintings of the World, bought Ray’s entire production of acrylic paintings for well over a decade.

In keeping with his interest in new and expressive media, Ray has more recently been exploring the wonderful world of polymer clay. You may have seen some of Ray’s polymer clay creations such as “Something’s Afoot” and “The Apple Tree.” They won 2nd place in their division of the 2006 and 2007 Springfield Mayor’s Art Shows. His newer line of “Fantasy Flora” has captured the attention of those who love wearable art. And his tongue-in-cheek line of pendants known as “The Girlfriends” pays whimsical homage to women of every age and “attitude.” You cannot help but smile or “ooh and aahh” when you look at these creative pieces. Part of the genius of his wearable art is its ability to garner a smile from people you encounter during your day. No longer does art have to stay at home on a shelf.

Ray’s years of experimentation truly express the touch of the inventor, the realization of the dreamer, and the sensitivity of the artist.
